4. Refusal to Admit a Problem
The justification of alcohol by the alcoholic is a topic that will most often surface when the alcoholic is being confronted with just how much money they have been spending on alcohol or just how much they have been drinking lately. The first sign that someone is a fully-blown alcoholic instead of a casual drinking buddy is the fact that they will refuse to admit they have a problem when they are confronted with it, and will most often refuse to do anything about it – because why should they? It’s not like they’re an alcoholic.
But they are, and the first step to getting an addict any kind of help is getting them to admit there’s a problem in the first place. Unfortunately, this is not a step of the process that you should force: Doing so will only make the alcoholic more set in their means, and more likely to keep drinking,
