5. Piercing-Related Irritation
Most piercings that are done in the right way are considered safe, but there are some more radical types of piercings of which the consequences haven’t been fully researched – and some other types of piercings that we know could be harmful to oral health in the long term, but ones that people get anyway.
We know that many piercings aren’t good for dental health. We also know that cancer can be commonly caused by a variety of different things that include repetitive irritation to the same areas of the mouth.
Piercings are one way in which the tongue can be irritated over time: In other cases, they can also be improperly done to start with or become infected, and both of these additional factors can increase your risk of developing cancer even further.
If you suspect that your piercing might increase your cancer risk, speak to a professional piercer and make sure you also speak to your doctor.
