3. Problems with Posture & Walking
People who suffer from poor posture or other physical structural issues are more prone to developing heel spurs. Those have flat feet, also called fallen arches, for example, have an uneven amount of pressure that falls on the heel bone and ankles. This pressure causes them to step inwards which also affects the posture.
A person with flat feet will have posture issues in their hips and knees in addition to their feet. Women are also at a higher risk of developing heel spurs due to the natural wideness of the hips in comparison to their knees.
All of these issues lead to additional pressure being placed on the heel when walking, running and jumping which can encourage the development of heel spurs. The best treatment is a therapy that teaches the affected person an alternative way to walk to reduce or space out the pressure. This may involve elevating the foot arch for proper joint alignment.
