""

Depression is estimated to affect millions of people worldwide – and it could be that you are one of the people who suffer from depression and might not have even recognized the symptoms for what they are up until now. If you have been feeling sad more frequently, have been experiencing fatigue that doesn’t go away – and have been going through other changes such as constant changes in your mood and even changes in your appetite, then you shoulder consider the fact that you might be suffering from depression.

If you can combine any of the symptoms on this list, then you should go to a doctor as soon as possible – depression is a very manageable condition if you are able to recognize the symptoms and seek treatment for it early on. Here are some of the most common and some of the not so common symptoms of depression and what you can do to overcome them.

1. Tiredness

Feeling tired or fatigued is a very common symptom of depression and happens to almost everyone with waves of frequency; sometimes you might have gotten more than enough sleep and other times you might have gotten no sleep the previous night at all – but in both cases, you will feel like you are constantly tired no matter how much you have slept the last night, week or month.

The tiredness that comes with depression has nothing to do with how much you slept, but is down to your current mental state and sometimes chemical imbalances within your brain; chronic tiredness is never a good sign and always a reason to visit your doctor to have the symptom checked out on a more intense level. It’s much better than never being able to find the cause for your illness, wouldn’t you say? Many people try to push themselves through tiredness by taking more stimulants, but this will never take care of the cause.

2. Personality Change

You might not realize it yourself, but one of the first symptoms of depression is that you will experience some kind of obvious change in your mood and personality – other people around you might comment that this is not the you that they have come to know, and while it’s not great to hear that from anyone that you know, you should take note of it if it corresponds to the fact that you have been feeling different emotionally lately.

Personality and mood changes are very common – and the changes are more often than not leaning towards suddenly being depressed and sad when you were otherwise a normally upbeat person. This is an emotional change that you will almost immediately notice in yourself; others will notice it too, and combined with some of the symptoms on this list it can mean that you suffer from serious depression – and you might not even have realized it.

3. Low Sex Drive

One of the most common characteristics that are associated with suffering from depression includes that things which would normally have held your interest will suddenly seem unimportant to you; this will include common interests and hobbies that you might have had, this feeling can spill over into your work life and make your career seem even more mundane than it normally would.

Depression can turn your days into a serious drag, and if depression is left untreated for too long then it can begin to affect your sex drive as well: A low libido can be a characteristic symptom of depression, and it can also point to other hormonal imbalances in your body that you should have checked out as soon as you can: If you are experiencing changes in your mood or sex drive, make an immediate appointment with your doctor – for this, hormone treatment will be enough to fix this.""

4. Appetite Changes

Depression doesn’t just affect the way you feel and spill over into your mood; depression can affect almost every area of your life, and you might feel that you are no longer sticking to the same sleeping pattern – those who suffer from depression usually suffer from insomnia, though sometimes people with depression sleep too much instead; it will also start to affect your appetite and you might find that you are either overindulging in food more to cope with your depression, or you could very well find that you don’t have an urge to eat at all and you find yourself avoiding food entirely.

Both are signs that your appetite is being affected by something that is wrong with your health, and depression is a very common cause of this – especially if you can combine it with some of the other symptoms that we’ve already mentioned in this article. For many, CBD oil can balance out the appetite changes with depression.""

5. Lack of Interest

One of the categorizing symptoms of severe depression even in its beginning stages is the fact that people either slowly or suddenly start to lose interest in what they would normally have considered fascinating – and it’s not uncommon to see people cut themselves off from their hobbies if they are suffering from depression.

Depression can give people the overwhelming feeling that there is no point to anything around them – and while this feeling usually doesn’t follow any form of logic in the real-life, this can be debilitating to people who suffer from depression and it is usually the emotion that most commonly can lead to self-harm and suicide. If you notice that you yourself have been feeling a lack of interest in your usual activities (or spot the same with a friend) your next step is to go to a doctor immediately and to seek professional help before the condition worsens.

""

6. Insomnia

Have you been finding that you are experiencing more and more difficulty falling asleep? Insomnia can come in many different forms and affect people in many different ways and this is only one of them. For some people, the problem is not with falling asleep in the first place, but with staying asleep throughout the night – and these are people that will wake up in the middle of the night and be unable to fall back asleep again.

If this becomes a chronic symptom, then it can very quickly start to affect your life in a whole range of unpleasant ways – including causing that you feel like you can’t function at work because you didn’t get any sleep. Insomnia can be a direct symptom that you are suffering from depression, and treating the depression is sometimes enough to make insomnia go away on its own. If it is not, then your doctor will prescribe something for it.

""

7. Eating too much

We’ve already told you about the fact that suffering from depression is very likely to affect your appetite, and many people find that they have no urge to eat at all – and this can have a very detrimental effect on their daily health. But then again depression can also manifest with other symptoms that happen to be the complete opposite of what we’ve already talked about so far.

Instead of eating too little and losing your appetite almost entirely because of depression, sometimes the condition manifests with instead eating far too much and overindulging instead – this can have just as much of an unhealthy effect on how you are feeling overall, and eating too much and being overweight comes with its own set of health problems that you should watch out for. If you are eating too much because of your depression, then treating the symptoms of the depression should be enough to make the other symptoms go away.

""

8. Mania

Depression is usually defined by the fact that people feel generally sad, hopeless, and like there is no point in anything going on around them – even when it happens to be something that used to capture their interest on a very deep and spiritual level. But there are times where depression can have the complete opposite effect on you and your health and will manifest with symptoms that are closer to mania instead.

Mania is categorized by feeling the exact opposite of depressed: People who we can say are going through a manic phase often have a very fast speech pattern, almost like their brains can’t keep up with their mouths, and they feel really great, but remember that mania is a false form of happiness – and the comedown from mania is often just as bad as the depression itself was, to begin with. Mania can and should be treated, usually with a mood stabilizer treatment prescribed by your doctor.

""9. Risk of Addiction

While we can’t directly say for sure that addiction is a symptom of depression, we can tell you that a lot of people who suffer from depression are more prone to addiction than people who lead seemingly normal lives without ever having to worry about an occurrence of serious depression in their lives.

Addiction is most often something that arises when people are trying to find ways to cope with their surroundings, and this can provide someone who is already feeling depressed with a tempting escape from what they think has been causing their depression – and this can immediately cause the start of a long cycle of addiction that in fact will only make your depression much worse and harder to deal with in the long run. If you are depressed, then you should know that you are at a higher risk of addiction – and always be careful that you don’t fall into the trap, even when you are feeling a bit down.

""

10. Thought Patterns

If you are suffering from severe depression then it is very possible that you will be experiencing some kind of notable change in your thought patterns – you might notice that you are wondering about death and mortality more often than you normally would, or you might find that you are thinking about things that are making you sad more often – and this is completely normal.

This can be one of the most common symptoms of depression, and it’s this that causes a lot of the other symptoms that we’ve already gone through on this list – any changes that you’ve noticed in your normal train of thought should be taken note of, and if this is severe in nature then you should consider making an appointment with your doctor immediately so you can get it checked out. And, you should follow the same advice if you see any thought pattern changes in someone you know.

""

11. Isolated

We’ve already mentioned that people who suffer from the symptoms of depression will start to withdraw from things they would normally have found enjoyable – this includes hobbies that they might have spent a lot of time and invested a lot of money in and suddenly just don’t seem to care about, and this can even spread as far as to include their careers – which they suddenly don’t seem to care about even though their career is necessary to pay the bills.

You might also notice that someone who suffers from depression is also far more likely to start isolating themselves from their friends and family – to put it in the most simple terms, if you are depressed then it can be extremely hard to have to deal with people – and depressed individuals will tend to isolate themselves more and more as their condition progresses. Always take note of anyone who is suddenly more isolated than they used to be.

""

12. Sadness

Have you been feeling like you are trapped on a constant rollercoaster of emotion, up one moment and then straight down to the depressive depths for the next. This can be a common symptom of depression – especially if this is a condition whereby the symptoms occur for long periods of time.

It’s a completely normal emotion to feel sad – especially if something that can generally make you sad has just happened as the death of a family member or an event like a divorce – but normal sadness can very quickly change into serious depression if you let it run uncontrolled. If you’ve noticed that you have been having more and more occurrences of feeling extremely sad with no way out, then you should make an appointment with your doctor to treat the underlying cause of your depression. You will feel much better as a result – and you will be able to deal with your condition.

""

13. Compulsive Behaviour

We have already gone over a large bulk of the emotional symptoms that you might experience if you are suffering from depression – and many of them are obvious, like the fact that you are feeling depressed and sad more often, but some of the symptoms that you might experience might be a lot less obvious, and we’ve also covered some of those symptoms on this list already.

But if you are suffering from clinical depression, then it could also manifest in many other ways – such as suddenly having the impulse to engage in compulsive behavior – that is the kind of behavior that has no real logical consequence, but still has to be performed because of an overwhelming urge: The most practical example that we have is that stepping on a crack will break your mother’s back – this is a simple example, but a tiny compulsive belief that’s often repeated. Getting rid of compulsive behavior can be as easy as making an appointment with your doctor.
